Incident Route Dashboard

Emergency services want to get to incidents as quickly and as safely as possible. When a call comes in from the control centre, it is important that the emergency services know the fastest and safest route to the scene. This is why we have developed the Incident Route Dashboard. This tool combines the call from the control room with the current situation on the roads leading to the scene. This shows the best route at a glance to emergency service driver(s) so they know right from the start how to drive to the scene of the incident and, most importantly, why a specific route is recommended. The simple fact that a driver knows whether to exit the fire station to the left or the right can save a lot of time and inconvenience.

As well as the route itself, any current delays, incidents and road closures are shown on the map. The driver therefore knows in advance what disruptions he or she may come across along the way, which helps make the journey to the incident a safe one. Emergency services often drive at high speeds so any disruption that they encounter en route is a potential hazard as they make their way to the scene of the incident. Examples include dug-up roads, roadworks or diversions. The Incident Route Dashboard uses data from Waze, NDW and Google Maps and is therefore always the most up to date. The route calculation factors in roads that are only accessible to emergency services. It also takes into account the fact that emergency services are allowed to drive alongside traffic jams on motorways. This creates custom routes for emergency services.
