Smart Collaboration: How Madrid Keeps Traffic Under Control

In the heart of Spain, where history and modernity meet, Madrid is taking a big step towards smart mobility. The traffic control center of the Ayuntamiento de Madrid is now working with us to keep the city quite literally moving in the right direction. The secret behind this leap forward? The use of our Traffic Reportal.

Madrid is a vibrant city with hundreds of thousands of traffic movements every day. Temporary road closures due to events, construction or incidents require swift action. Where traffic information used to be distributed manually, things are different now. Thanks to the Traffic Reportal, traffic measures in Madrid can now be entered in real time and instantly shared with millions of road users.

When the traffic control center enters a measure in the system — such as closing a busy boulevard or setting up a detour around an event — this information is automatically forwarded to navigation services like Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze and TomTom. No intermediaries, no delays — just a direct line from traffic management to the windscreen of the driver.

This smart integration makes a world of difference. For the traffic control center, it means more control over traffic flow and less reliance on random reports or delays in communication. For road users — taxi drivers, commuters and tourists alike — it means reliable, up-to-date route information that matches the situation on the ground. On top of that, it gives cities an extra way to reach drivers, beyond the traditional roadside systems.

This collaboration is set up in close cooperation with our partner Xouba SL, whose local expertise bridges the gap between us and the City of Madrid. By combining knowledge of the Spanish traffic landscape with our technical infrastructure, we provide a solution that fits the scale and complexity of a global city like Madrid.

This project shows how technology and collaboration go hand in hand to make mobility smarter, safer and more efficient. And Madrid is just the beginning. We look forward to working with more cities in Spain that, like the capital, want to benefit from real-time traffic information that truly works. This project marks the first step in our broader ambition to support other Spanish cities with their mobility challenges too.

In this way, we bring the future of traffic one step closer — also in Spain.
