Did you know that the foundation of TripService wasn’t laid in a boardroom, but born from the passion of a global volunteer community? For over fifteen years, as the coordinator of the Dutch Waze community, I have been deeply rooted in the world of real-time traffic data. This journey, driven by a hobby, has evolved into a professional mission that lies at the core of everything we do. It’s a story of how a community can be the driving force behind innovative traffic management.

The spark that ignited eight years ago led to the creation of the public dashboard Wegstatus.nl (now also international as Roadstatus.eu) and subsequently TripService. What began as a project to make traffic information more accessible has grown into an international platform. Our connection with the Waze community has always been the cornerstone of this success. This bond has only grown stronger. Whereas I used to be primarily on the user side, I now have daily contact with public and commercial stakeholders in the mobility world. This unique perspective allows us to build bridges that were previously unimaginable.

Our international growth is a direct result of these deep roots. The passionate volunteers of the Waze community are our foundation worldwide. Without their local knowledge and dedication, our work – providing accurate and real-time Online Traffic Management – would be significantly more complex, if not impossible. It enables us to achieve exceptional results on projects, such as the Molenbrug closure in Kampen, with significantly higher reach and better engagement than comparable campaigns.

Recently, during the Waze EMEA Mega Meetup, these ties were strengthened once again. We gained insights into the future roadmaps of Waze and Google Maps and further solidified our relationships with various local communities and our professional contacts within both organizations. This network is our greatest asset. It allows us to execute projects for our clients, like Rijkswaterstaat, that not only inform but also genuinely improve the experience of traffic disruptions and enhance road safety. We are proud that, rooted in a community, we now play a key role in the future of smart mobility.
