For the Bridges over the IJssel project, Rijkswaterstaat asked for our help to provide information to road users. This project was our test case for our Online Traffic Management strategy.

This year, Veilig Verkeer Nederland and the Ministry started a pilot project to display school zones and show notifications about them in navigation apps. We supported this initiative with Waze Takeovers.

A2 Deil-Empel

For the roadworks on the A2 motorway at Deil-Empel, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) asked us to help keep road users informed. In collaboration with Rijkswaterstaat and Using Waze, Google Ads, Facebook and Instagram, we were able to show a range of static and dynamic information.

A9 Gaasperdammertunnel

The A9 near Amsterdam has recently been undergoing partial modifications, with traffic now passing through tunnels. To handle this, we changed the route and map information in Waze and Google Maps with the help of the Waze Community. Consequently, road users are always kept fully informed and will not be faced with any unwelcome surprises.

It is important to check regularly the open data supplied by the government. This is especially with projects like Mobility Data in the offing. In 2020 we carried out an analysis of the traffic signs related to the speed limit for the Belgian roads and traffic agency, the AWB.

Online Traffic Management on A4/A9

We ran a similar Online Traffic Management project on two stretches of motorway, the A4 from Burgerveen to Schiphol and the A9 from Raasdorp to Velsen. The campaign began informing road users a week before the road works were due to start.

Mobility Portal - Campus Groningen

In 2020, the Municipality of Groningen put out a tender to select a startup that would be able to find solutions to social issues. In this case, it was about developing a solution to increase awareness about travelling responsibly and encourage people to make responsible mobility choices. Campus Groningen was one of the partners.

Smart journeys to the forest

During the period of strict coronavirus restrictions, many people turned to forests for distraction. Although generally a safe choice, it is not so much so if there are too many hikers there at the same time. Notifications in the Waze navigation app can help regulate the traffic in the forests of the southern part of the Netherlands.

We also worked with the volunteers on the dynamic operation of the car park entrances, so that visitors were always directed along the right route. Finally, our collaboration with Waze meant we managed to avoid a repeat of the huge traffic chaos seen the previous year. All surrounding residential areas were closed to event traffic and could only be accessed by local residents.
