Emergency services need to be able to reach incidents as quickly and safely as possible. As soon as an alert is received from the emergency call center, it is essential for the emergency services to know the fastest and safest route to the incident location. For this purpose, we have developed the Incident Route Dashboard. This tool combines the report from the control room with the current status of the roads leading to the report. This means that at a glance, the best route is visible to the driver(s) of the emergency services, so that they know immediately from departure how to drive to the incident and, above all, why a specific route is recommended. The simple fact that a driver knows whether to leave the station to the left or right can save a lot of time and inconvenience.
In addition to the route, current delays, incidents and road closures are also shown on the map. This means that the driver knows what disruptions he or she may encounter, which helps to ensure the safety of the journey to the incident. Emergency services often drive at high speeds, so every disruption they encounter on the way is a potential risk on the way to the incident. Think, for example, of broken roads, road works or diversions. The Incident Route Dashboard uses Waze, NDW and Google Maps data, ensuring that it is always up-to-date. The route calculation takes into account roads that are only accessible to emergency services. In addition, it also takes into account the fact that emergency services can drive along the highway past a traffic jam. This results in customized routes for the emergency services.
